More than 5,000 missing by the deadly flood on the Nepal-Tibet border. In one of the largest hospitals in Kathmandu, many relatives come looking for news from their loved ones. Elsewhere in the Nepalese capital, relatives and acquaintances of the disappeared seek names of the newly admitted and go to other hospitals in the city. From the ground, our special envoy, Adrian Foncillas, was there and spoke to some of them.
The staff of the restaurant Sakhang , rue du Faubourg-de-Pierre in Strasbourg, deplores the loss of relatives trapped by the August 26 flood that ravaged the border between Nepal and Tibet. Between the stories of the survivors and concerns about the future, these testimonies help to draw a region bruised in the shadow of Chinese interests.
The pattern of news coverage in Chinese state media shows that the bulk of the reports are devoted to portraying the tireless efforts, timely presence, and authority of government agencies in providing relief, while avoiding providing answers to the most fundamental questions, such as the exact identities of the missing, the last location of the victims, and the areas searched.
