BJP leader Smriti Irani hit back at Congress over its allegations against the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Irani questioned Congress’ objections over duplicate and deceased voter names and cited the Election Commission’s clarification on verification of flagged entries. She also criticised Congress for invoking the Lahore Congress session while attacking the poll panel.
Smriti Irani vs. Rahul Gandhi on EC: Congress and BJP are at loggerheads over the Election Commission. At the Congress CWC meeting, Rahul Gandhi called the 2024 Lok Sabha elections fraudulent and alleged EVM tampering and voter list irregularities. Rahul spoke of peaceful protests with opposition parties. Smriti Irani said that instead of reviewing the defeat, Congress is attacking the Election Commission.
Smriti Irani asked that if Congress is raising questions on the functioning of the Election Commission, then what has been its stand towards the Election Commission in states like Kerala, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
BJP National General Secretary Smriti Irani said, "Today the Congress leadership mentioned those 13 crore 30 lakh names about which the Election Commission has already issued a statement on the 26th."
BJP leader Smriti Irani has accused the Congress of weakening India's constitutional system and said that they are unable to digest their defeat and that is why they are targeting the Election Commission.
