The botched execution of American Christa Pike in Tennessee last week has now led to another death row inmate being given an unexpected reprieve. Gary Wayne Sutton, who was due to be executed on December 3, has been put on hold. Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has decided to suspend all executions in the state for the rest of the year following Pike's case. Sutton's execution was the only one remaining on the schedule this year.
About half an hour later, witnesses heard three gunshots near where Griffin was later found dead.
