From 'Sacked in the Morning' to New Contract - Why Fabian Hurzeler and Brighton Make Perfect Sense
The new deal rewards Hurzeler’s revival, with Brighton still in contention for European qualification after a winter slump and a 2-0 win at Brentford.
On Thursday, Brighton coach Fabian Hürzeler signed a two-year contract extension through the 2028-29 season, which the Premier League club described as a new three-year contract.
The turnaround follows a difficult winter run when fans chanted "You're getting sacked in the morning" after a loss to Crystal Palace; a 2-0 win at Brentford on February 21 sparked revival and placed Albion in European contention.
Chairman Tony Bloom and chief executive Paul Barber maintained faith during mid-season struggles, with Bloom praising the team's "resilience, intensity and control" under the 33-year-old manager's leadership.
"I absolutely love working for this club," Hürzeler said after agreeing to the extension; with three matches remaining, the team holds eighth place in the league.
The German manager, who became the youngest permanent boss in Premier League history, reportedly drew interest from Bayer Leverkusen; this new deal protects Brighton as he continues his long-term project.
Again and again the name Fabian Hürzeler was associated with Bundesliga clubs. But now the young coach has tied himself to his club in England in the long term.
