Defense expert Harry J. Kazianis traces the Raptor drawdown: 750 planned, then 648, 442, 339, and finally 187 — the Soviet target collapsed a decade before production. GAO put the completed program at $66.7 billion, roughly $357 million per jet; exports stayed banned, the Air Force wanted 381, and Congress bars the fleet from dropping below 184.
[Kadena] At approximately 2:15 p.m. on the 27th, firefighters were dispatched to Kadena Air Base to assist an F-22 fighter jet that had just landed. The aircraft was then towed to the parking area. It is believed that some kind of trouble occurred. Immediately before this, five F-22s were observed refueling (hot-pitting) without shutting down their engines at the former naval parking area.
