Extreme heat warning issued for parts of UK next week amid new heatwave
Forecasters warn the heatwave could bring widespread health and transport disruption, with temperatures reaching the mid-30s Celsius and warm nights overnight.
The Met Office has issued an amber extreme heat warning for parts of southern England and Wales from June 22 to June 25, predicting temperatures near 40C that may break June records of 35.6C.
The heatwave will bring very high daytime temperatures and tropical nights above 20C, causing health risks for the general population and increased water safety incidents.
The UK Health Security Agency and Health and Safety Executive have issued heat health alerts and guidance to protect people during the extended hot period.
Temperatures in Scotland will reach up to 30C by June 25, with Ireland also forecast to experience warm settled weather with highs possibly exceeding 30C next week.
