Lashkar-E-Taiba Co-Founder Amir Hamza Injured in Lahore Gun Attack
Police said two unidentified motorcyclists opened fire after the recording, leaving the 66-year-old LeT co-founder in critical condition.
- On Thursday, April 16, 2026, unknown gunmen shot Lashkar-e-Taiba co-founder Maulana Amir Hamza in Lahore shortly after he left a television studio where he had been recording a programme.
- Hamza, 66, serves as the second most important leader of Lashkar-e-Taiba after Hafiz Saeed and is listed as a sanctioned terrorist by the United States Treasury Department for raising funds for the banned group.
- The attack occurred at around 10 a.m. near Pindi Stop, with witnesses reporting two motorcyclists opened fire as the vehicle departed; retired Pakistani judge Nazir Ahmed Ghazi was also inside the car.
- Lahore Police said it "responded swiftly to the incident of firing" at Hamdard Chowk, while the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League later claimed Hamza is "Safe" and out of danger.
- This is the second attack on Hamza in less than a year; last May he was shot in the waist area by unidentified men, and despite heightened security, the motive for Thursday's shooting remains unclear.
