The FBI is investigating whether illegal funds from public benefits fraud were funneled to Minnesota political campaigns, with nearly $15,000 linked to key officials, DOJ sources said.
- About two weeks ago, top Justice Department officials asked the FBI public corruption section to investigate whether Minnesota political campaigns illegally benefited from fraud in public service organizations, a probe not previously reported.
- The Justice Department has for years prosecuted cases linked to Feeding Our Future, including a January 2022 raid, and a Washington Examiner report earlier this month said Gov. Tim Walz and Rep. Ilhan Omar received donations from those implicated.
- Between 2017 and 2022, Gov. Tim Walz received $5,400 from two linked individuals, and Rep. Ilhan Omar returned funds to three local food shelves, while the FBI said it hasn't found campaign wrongdoing.
