Aritzia Buys Rights to U.S. Fashion Retailer Fred Segal, Leases Iconic Melrose Site
Aritzia plans to restore Fred Segal's iconic Melrose location and create an experiential retail destination as part of its U.S. growth strategy and brand revitalization.
- On Feb. 19, 2026, Aritzia Inc. purchased the Fred Segal brand including its intellectual property and trademarks, and leased Fred Segal's original 8100 Melrose Avenue flagship.
- Long known as an L.A. cultural touchstone, Fred Segal, founded in 1961, changed hands several times and recently closed its Sunset and Malibu locations.
- Restoring the storm-damaged ivy-covered facade, Aritzia plans to redevelop the 8100 Melrose site into an immersive experiential destination, the company said.
- Aritzia views the deal as part of U.S. expansion and prior acquisitions show Aritzia's M&A experience, including buying a 75 percent stake in CYC Design Corporation.
- Jennifer Wong, chief executive officer of Aritzia, said the company is honored to steward and evolve Fred Segal for a new generation while bringing Aritzia's `everyday luxury` ethos to the cultural retail brand.
