Excellent shore sport as Killybegs Mariners land big bass, smooth-hounds and flounder | Fishing in Ireland - Catch the unexpectedExcellent shore sport as Killybegs Mariners land big bass, smooth-hounds and flounder – Fishing in Ireland – Catch the unexpected

It was a spectacular night on the beach for Killybegs Mariners SAC members. Anglers Pat Cunningham and Sean Harte enjoyed some superb sport, with both successfully landing a brace of quality smooth-hounds and bass. Alongside these hard-fighting fish, a fine array of flounders completed a highly productive session on the shore. Earlier in the week, it was a truly unforgettable night for John Cunningham. While fishing the beach, he witnessed the water begin to shimmer as massive shoals of scad ran into the shallows, actively pursued by predators. After catching a few scad, he waded out to cast and spotted a shoal of large bass patrolling in just a foot of water. Spotting the fish early prompted a quick change of tactics; switching to short, stealthy casts, he successfully hooked and landed a magnificent bass measuring 65cm.   More fishing… Sea angling in Donegal
