Ex-NY trooper sentenced to at least 2.5 years in prison in chase that killed 11-year-old girl
Prosecutors said Baldner rammed the SUV twice, causing it to flip and kill 11-year-old Monica Goods.
On Tuesday, former New York trooper Christopher Baldner was sentenced to 2½ to 7½ years in prison for the 2020 death of 11-year-old Monica Goods during a high-speed chase.
Baldner pulled over Tristin Goods for speeding on the New York State Thruway near Kingston just before midnight on December 22, 2020, prompting a high-speed pursuit.
Prosecutors alleged Baldner rammed the SUV twice on the highway, causing it to flip, while defense attorneys claimed the crash occurred after the vehicle cut off the trooper.
A jury convicted Baldner of manslaughter in March; he was previously acquitted of murder and reckless endangerment charges in the same case.
The 47-year-old Catskill resident was taken to jail in Ulster County immediately after sentencing, concluding a law enforcement career spanning nearly 20 years with the state police.
