Ex-NY Assembly Dem candidate swiped $160K in taxpayer funds in illegal campaign finance scheme: feds
A former Democratic candidate for New York state Assembly allegedly stole $160,000 in taxpayer cash by defrauding the state's new campaign matching-funds program, federal prosecutors said Friday.
Dao Yin, a resident of Flushing, New York City, is suspected of embezzling more than $160,000 in public matching campaign funds from the New York State Public Campaign Finance Board (PCFB) by submitting fake donation cards during the election period from May 2023 to June 2024. He has been indicted by the federal prosecutor for the Eastern District of New York and was arrested early Friday morning (June 13).
