Drug Kingpin, Ex-Footballer Jailed 24yrs for Cocaine Trafficking
NDLEA said the men were found guilty of importing 7.05 kilograms of cocaine after Chinedu spent nearly 10 years as a fugitive.
- On Friday, Justice Musa Kakaki of the Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced Ntoruka Emmanuel Chinedu and former international footballer Segun George Hunkarin to a combined 24 years imprisonment for cocaine trafficking.
- Chinedu had evaded authorities for nearly 10 years after jumping bail in a 2015 case involving the importation of 6.25 kilograms of cocaine, according to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency .
- NDLEA operatives rearrested Chinedu on June 24, 2025, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, while he allegedly attempted to smuggle 800 grams of cocaine via Ethiopian Airlines, with Hunkarin waiting to receive the shipment.
- Justice Kakaki sentenced Chinedu to 22 years total for both cases, while Hunkarin received two years for conspiracy after admitting to trafficking drugs from Brazil to Ethiopia during his football career.
- NDLEA Chairman, retired Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa, described the conviction as proof of the agency's determination to track down fugitives and ensure drug traffickers face justice regardless of evasion duration.
