'Evil dead': Tanushree Dutta reacts to death of Nana Patekar, the actor she named in India's #MeToo reckoning
Sandhya Mridul said death does not erase harm, as Tanushree Dutta’s 2018 harassment allegations returned to focus after Nana Patekar’s death.
- On Thursday, October 8, 2026, actor Vishwanath Patekar died in Goa following a suspected cardiac arrest at his home. His son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed the actor passed away from natural causes.
- Patekar's death revived a 2018 controversy where actress Tanushree Dutta accused him of harassment during filming of Horn Ok Pleassss. A Mumbai court disposed of the case in 2025, citing a delay of over ten years in filing the FIR.
- Actress Sandhya Mridul posted on Instagram questioning whether death ends accountability for alleged abuse. She wrote that survivors often feel their truth vanishes when public praise fills the air.
- Dutta expressed concern that media attention would focus on the "evil dead" rather than her scheduled event in Lucknow. She stated, "Definitely condolences to the family."
- Patekar, a three-time National Film Award winner, was celebrated for his intense style in films like Parinda and Natsamrat. He gained further recognition as Uday Shetty in Welcome.
