Evacuations ordered in rural Texas as wildfire mushrooms within hours
The blaze has destroyed at least five structures and remained only slightly contained as officials opened evacuation centers and schools closed Tuesday.
On Tuesday, authorities ordered evacuations in Texas as the Ross Fire expanded to more than 78 square miles, forcing school closures across two counties west of Fort Worth.
Amy Meyer, a spokesperson for Palo Pinto County Emergency services, said perfect fire conditions allowed the blaze to spread rapidly after igniting Monday afternoon.
The Hawk Fire in Nevada destroyed more than 30 homes across about 23 square miles, with Authorities reporting the blaze is 27% contained and 63,000 residents under evacuation orders.
Fire officials suspect human activity caused the Nevada Fire, which injured at least seven people—three first responders and four civilians—after beginning Saturday near the California state line.
