Volcano Fire: Most Evacuation Orders Downgraded After Brush Fire Erupts Near Murrieta
Cal Fire said 187 personnel were assigned as the blaze threatened life and property, with evacuations, road closures and evacuation sites set up.
The Volcano Fire erupted west of Murrieta on Tuesday, burning 138 acres near Tenaja Road and Via Volcano before Cal Fire reported 25% containment by late Tuesday evening.
Cal Fire ordered mandatory evacuations citing an immediate threat to life, with zones extending from the San Diego County and Riverside County border north through the Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Preserve to Murrieta.
Firefighters deployed 187 personnel, 34 engines, three helicopters, three water tenders, four dozers, and four hand crews to combat the blaze as it moved through medium to heavy brush.
Authorities established an evacuation center at Chaparral High School in Temecula and a large animal shelter at the Murrieta Equestrian Center, while deputies closed Tenaja Road between Avocado Messa.
Evacuation warnings were issued for surrounding zones including RVC-2076, indicating potential threat to life and property. As of Wednesday, only RVC-2146 remained under mandatory evacuation as most zones saw orders lifted.
