Evacuation orders, alerts downgraded for Cariboo’s Big Bar Complex wildfire

TNRD rescinded evacuation orders for about 214 addresses and downgraded four more properties to alert as Big Bar Complex conditions improved.

  • On Monday, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District rescinded evacuation orders and alerts for approximately 214 addresses affected by the Pear Lake wildfire, clearing residents to return to properties near Big Bar Lake and Highway 97.
  • Both the Pear Lake wildfire, covering approximately 166,117.4 hectares, and the French Bar Creek wildfire are part of the Big Bar Complex.
  • The TNRD also downgraded an evacuation order to an alert for four properties near the French Bar Creek wildfire, including Blackdome Mine and addresses on Watson Bar.
  • Newly downgraded properties include 9320 Empire Valley Big Bar Rd, along with 7633, 7780, and 8410 Watson Bar Rd, remaining under alert status.
  • The French Bar Creek wildfire remains an estimated 61,766 hectares. Officials advise residents to monitor the TNRD Emergency Map for updates, as changing conditions may necessitate reinstatement of evacuation orders.
