Auckland's First Electric Ferry Is on the Water
- EV Maritime has introduced its inaugural fully electric ferry for passenger service, which begins operating today on the route connecting downtown Auckland to Half Moon Bay.
- This launch is part of Auckland Transport's effort, supported by the New Zealand Government, to shift towards a more environmentally friendly fleet of ferries.
- The ferry, part of the EVM200 class, features a lightweight carbon fiber hull optimized for low drag and uses the world’s first maritime CharIN Megawatt Charging System for rapid recharging.
- The ferry travels the 10-mile route at speeds up to 25 knots, seats 230 passengers, and recharges during a 10-minute turnaround via two 1.1MW MCS charging inlets; CEO Michael Eaglen expressed great enthusiasm about introducing this vessel to service.
