EU Prosecutors Probe Alleged Misuse of Funds Linked to France's Bardella

- On Thursday, The European Public Prosecutor's Office launched a probe into the Rassemblement National regarding alleged misappropriation of European grants to benefit leader Jordan Bardella.
- Anti-Corruption filed the complaint last December, citing a Canard Enchain report alleging the party used European funds to train Bardella for the 2022 French presidential election.
- Alleging misuse, the complaint states a coach was hired to "prepare Rassemblement National MEPs for media appearances" using funds "paid by the European Parliament from the budget allocated to MEPs."
- Dismissing the accusations, The Rassemblement National maintains its position while party mentor Marine Le Pen seeks to overturn a 2025 embezzlement conviction threatening her presidential bid next year.
- Pen's political future remains uncertain as she contests the conviction, having previously lost the 2022 French presidential election to Emmanuel Macron, who secured five more years as president.
