European Football Revenue Breaks €40 Billion but Growth Is Slowing, Says Deloitte
Deloitte said rising losses and a packed calendar could limit future gains as European clubs generated €40.2 billion and the Premier League led revenues.
Deloitte reported on Wednesday that European football revenue surpassed €40 billion for the first time in the 2024-25 season, though growth is showing signs of stalling across the continent.
Expansion of UEFA and FIFA competitions delivered financial benefits across Europe's 'Big Five' leagues, which generated €21.6 billion in revenue. Yet Deloitte Sports Business Group analysts cautioned that simply adding more content may not deliver sustainable growth.
The Premier League remained Europe's highest-earning division with €6.8 billion in revenue, an 8% rise. Elsewhere, the Bundesliga surpassed €4 billion for the first time, while LaLiga posted €4.1 billion, with Real Madrid and Barcelona accounting for 52% of aggregate revenue.
Financial results proved mixed as pre-tax losses ballooned to €948 million due to heavy transfer spending. Aggregate income fell 2% to €942 million, with only three clubs managing to turn a profit during the season.
Deloitte Sports Business Group lead partner Tim Bridge warned that an "increasingly saturated market" could weaken the on-pitch spectacle. In contrast, the Women's Super League posted 39% revenue growth to €90 million, marking the second consecutive season where all clubs exceeded €1 million.
In the 2024/2025 season, European associations and leagues won more than 40 billion euros for the first time. The Bundesliga also achieved a top score.
According to an audit firm, Europe's football market has continued its record course. The Bundesliga is also contributing to this. However, there is doubt that growth will continue this way.
