Because of Russia's war of aggression, many Ukrainians are fleeing to the EU. Commission President von der Leyen now wants to limit the admission.
Germany and other EU countries are pushing for men who are subject to military action to remain in Ukraine. Commission President Ursula von der Leyen now seems to implement this, as she suggests in a letter.

The European Commission intends to extend the temporary protection granted to Ukrainian refugees in the European Union, but also prepares for amendments which could exclude from this status military men who have left Ukraine.The measure, announced by the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, aims to continue to support refugees, without affecting Kiev's ability to secure its defence in the face of Russian aggression.
