On 8 August 2025, the deadline struck: the new regulation on media freedom (European Media Freedom Act, EMFA), approved by the European Parliament in April 2024, entered into force in all EU Member States. Brussels intends to "guarantee pluralism and independence of information" and "limit political and economic interference and pressure".
