Euclid And CSST Surveys Enable Direct Detection Of Type II-P Supernova Progenitors

Upcoming wide-field surveys from the Euclid and Chinese Space Station Telescope are projected to dramatically increase the detection rate of red supergiant stars that explode as supernovae, potentially identifying around twenty-four progenitors annually , ten times the current rate , and allowing scientists to better understand the origins of these stellar events even when dust obscures their light.
