Germany is the EU's largest net contributor – and negligent when applying for funding. The federal government missed the deadline for funding from the Climate Social Fund.
In fact, Germany is entitled to about 5.3 billion euros from the EU Climate Social Fund. However, the Federal Government would have to submit a plan in Brussels for this - up to the deadline. This deadline is now passing, but the Ministry of the Environment is relaxed.
A new emissions trading system drives CO2 costs up. The EU therefore wants to support the countries. Germany misses an important deadline.
