The new EU rules are to be applied in two years' time, and genetically modified food may then be stored in the supermarket without special labelling.
The European Parliament has relaxed the rules for labeling genetically modified plants. The Ministry of Agriculture has also opposed the relaxation.
Supermarkets are expected to sell genetically modified fruit and vegetables from mid-2028 onwards without special labelling. Greens, social democrats and leftists had tried to stop the changes.
