Pope Leo XIV received today, in the Vatican, the Head of Diplomacy of the European Union, Kaja Kallas, with whom he discussed the war in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as humanitarian needs and the risk of social polarization.

Kaja Kallas met Pope Leo XIV to discuss Russia’s war against Ukraine and the need for a just peace, as well as the Middle East, humanitarian needs, societal polarisation and artificial intelligence.
European Union (EU) Commission High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated that she met with Pope Leo XIV and said, "We discussed the need for a just and lasting peace in Russia's war against Ukraine, the situation and urgent humanitarian needs in the Middle East, social polarization, and the growing danger posed by artificial intelligence."
Italian Foreign Minister Tajani met with EU High Representative Kallas in Rome and requested that efforts to strengthen maritime security in the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz be strengthened. Tajani specifically requested the strengthening of Aspides, and Kallas and Crosetto agreed on this point.
