The Netherlands may proceed with setting up return hubs for rejected asylum seekers. This is possible thanks to new EU rules that were definitively approved by the European Parliament on Wednesday.
More deportations, more hardship: New rules for rejected asylum seekers should give EU countries more control over migration policy. Return centres in third countries are also moving closer.
Strasbourg (France), 17 Jun (EFE).- The European Parliament voted on Wednesday in favour of the legal text of the Returns Regulation which allows, among other things, the creation of centres for the return of migrants in third countries, as well as speeding up deportations. MEPs endorsed the text, which Spain opposed from its conception, after the European institutions reached a provisional political agreement on 1 June.The entry The Chamber app…
On Wednesday, the European Parliament adopted stricter immigration rules which will give the authorities much broader powers of detention and allow the creation of deportation centres outside the bloc. MEPs voted 418 to 218 for a reform aimed at increasing deportations, in response to the political pressure exerted by the 27 countries of the bloc to curb migration.
The European Parliament plenary on Wednesday will give final green light to the regulation authorizing migrant camps in third countries, following the model of Giorgia Meloni with Albania.
