While the European trade deficit with China has reached around EUR 1 billion a day since last year and Beijing is flooding Europe with its products, France and Germany are calling on the EU to adopt a new legal weapon to protect itself in the event of a trade war.
The proposals from Paris and Berlin were designed for a trade war scenario, for example if a country were to interrupt its supplies of raw materials.
Berlin wants a measure that could rival America's Section 301 and China's export restrictions.
