The paper sticker of visas, present in millions of passports for decades, will disappear. On 8 April 2026, the European Commission officially adopted the legal acts that will make all Schengen visas short and long-stay digital, replacing the physical sticker with a cryptographically secure, online verifiable 2D barcode.
