Addis Abeba -- More than 50 civilians have reportedly been killed in and around Alamata, southern Tigray, during several days of intense fighting in late September, as renewed hostilities in northern Ethiopia leave residents displaced, medical facilities overwhelmed and humanitarian access increasingly difficult.
A week after fighting broke out in northern Ethiopia for the first time since the civil war, pro-government forces announced they were approaching the capital in Tigray, a stronghold of opposition forces. The latter are announcing a counter-offensive.
A new civil war between the Ethiopian government and rebel groups appears to have begun.
