Since last month, ‘water dragons’, the nickname for the great crested newt, have been bathing in a family’s swimming pond in Geluveld. Barely 20 kilometres away, experts are fishing for the first time for ‘eDNA’ to track down the endangered creature. “This allows us to dig extra pools for this symbolic species in a more targeted manner.”
