End of the Measles Outbreak in Quebec
Health officials said vaccination and contact tracing limited the spread, with 28 cases reported before the outbreak ended.
Quebec's most recent measles outbreak is officially over after 32 days passed since the last reported case on July 1, with 28 cases reported to the Health Ministry.
For an outbreak to end, 32 days must pass after the last contagious case, as each reported case triggers a public health investigation to determine infection origin and contact those exposed.
Public health officials remind Quebecers that the best way to protect themselves against this highly contagious virus is to get vaccinated, especially those at risk including pregnant individuals and those with weakened immune systems.
While Quebec's outbreak ended, the United States faces its worst measles situation in 35 years, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recording 2,371 cases as of July 30.
This recent event marks the fourth measles outbreak in Quebec since 2024, while Alberta and Ontario provinces each reported more than 2,000 cases in previous years.
