Emergency crews recovered four bodies and rescued four survivors as they searched the rubble of a three-storey building.
- On Tuesday morning, a three-storey building collapsed in the Popo Giwa area of Ilorin, Kwara State, killing four family members and trapping eight occupants initially. Emergency responders confirmed four survivors were rescued alive.
- The collapse occurred at about 5 a.m. at Popo Giwa Street, beside Gogoro Mosque, prompting immediate mobilization by the Kwara State Fire Service and other emergency agencies. Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Fire Service Hassan Adekunle coordinated rescue operations.
- An excavator was deployed to the scene to clear debris and gain access to trapped victims. Kwara State Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi identified the collapsed section as the boys' quarters of the three-storey structure.
- During a visit to the scene, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development Lawal Olohungbebe expressed condolences to victims' families and urged residents to report structural defects promptly and evacuate buildings showing signs of potential failure.
- Authorities are currently assessing the remaining structure to determine the exact cause of the collapse and ensure public safety. Officials noted that relevant agencies would take appropriate action, including potential demolition, if findings show the building requires it.
