Elizabeth Debicki to Play Richard II in Royal Shakespeare Company Show
Elizabeth Debicki will make her Royal Shakespeare Company debut in 2027, becoming the first woman to play the title role in the company’s history.
Golden Globe-winning Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki will become the first woman to portray the title role in Richard II at the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2027.
Director Daniel Raggett will stage the production at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre from April 10 until May 22, 2027, marking Debicki's debut with the company.
Co-Artistic directors Daniel Evans and Tamara Harvey said they are "hugely excited" to cast Debicki, praising her "ability to match immense vulnerability with deep courage."
Alongside this casting, the RSC detailed its Summer 2027 program, which features Damien Molony in Coriolanus and world premieres based on novels by Virginia Woolf and Susanna Clarke.
Priority booking for members and supporters opens Monday October 5, with public ticket sales for the new season beginning Wednesday October 21.
