Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum called for a full investigation after eight newborns died in neonatal intensive care units at two government-run hospitals in the states of Jalisco and Durango, cases that have raised questions about infections detected among some of the infants.
The death of babies in Durango and Jalisco, allegedly infected by the bacteria Klebsiella pneumoniae, “is something serious” and has to come “to the last consequences,” said President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
IMSS separated hospital managers in Guadalajara after deaths of six newborns in which hospital infections were detected.
