HAVANA — Cuba reconnected its national electrical grid and restored power to the majority of the capital Havana by late on Sunday, energy officials said, nearly two days after an island-wide outage knocked out power to 10 million people.

For 48 hours there was no electricity in Havana. Now more than 94 percent of the connections are to be supplied again. But in the rest of the country it remains dark in many regions.

Almost all of Cuba was without power this past weekend. The island went out of power on Friday evening, leaving its nearly eleven million inhabitants in the dark.
