Electric Ireland to increase prices for gas, electricity
Electric Ireland will raise residential electricity prices by 8% and gas rates by 7.7% effective July 1, marking the provider's first domestic price increase since October 2022.
Executive Director Pat Fenlon cited "significant upward price pressure on wholesale energy markets" resulting from the conflict in the Middle East, with wholesale gas costs surging by around 40% to 50% in recent weeks.
Average households will face a total annual increase of €255, though the State-owned ESB Group subsidiary offers access to its Compassionate Assistance fund and flexible payment options to help manage bills.
Competitors Energia and SSE Airtricity raised residential prices in late 2025, yet Electric Ireland stressed its standard electricity rates will remain lower than most other market competitors even after this increase.
Analyst Daragh Cassidy noted the announcement was expected but stressed the increase does not necessarily signal another widespread round of electricity price hikes, even as households face "ongoing cost of living pressures.
