EIU Liveability Index 2026: Copenhagen, Vienna and Melbourne top annual city ranking, with New York recording one of the largest score gains
The Danish capital scored 98 out of 100 and led 173 cities on stability, education and infrastructure, the EIU said.

- The report assesses 173 cities worldwide across five factors including stability, education, and infrastructure; Copenhagen earned perfect scores of 100 in these three categories, driving its top ranking.
- Laura Amira Kassem, a doctor and PhD student in Copenhagen, told the BBC the city's appeal stems from "a combination of cycling infrastructure, swimmable urban water and a genuinely walkable, bikeable scale."
- Vienna placed second in the index, followed by Melbourne and Sydney, while Zurich, Geneva, Osaka, Adelaide, Vancouver, and Tokyo secured spots among the top ten cities assessed.
- Notably, all top ten cities achieved perfect scores in education, yet Copenhagen and Vancouver were the only leaders that did not receive a 100 in healthcare, highlighting category variance.
