Egypt Uncovers Three New Kingdom Tombs in Luxor's Dra Abu al-Naga
- Egyptian archaeologists discovered three ancient tombs of prominent statesmen on Monday in the Dra Abu el-Naga necropolis, Luxor.
- The tombs date to the New Kingdom period, around 1550-1070 B.C., and were found through inscriptions identifying their owners and titles.
- The tombs include one belonging to Amum-em-Ipet from the Ramesside period, another belonging to Baki, a grain silo supervisor, and one to S, a temple supervisor, writer, and oasis mayor.
- Egypt's Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathi, highlighted the find as an important scientific and archaeological milestone that is expected to enhance cultural tourism in the country.
- The findings arrive ahead of the Grand Egyptian Museum's expected full opening this summer, which will showcase over 100,000 artifacts from Egypt's ancient heritage.
