Serbia: RSF alerts EU to ongoing police violence against journalists
Following the publication of the European Union’s Rule of Law Report, which provides, amongst other things, an annual assessment of the state of media freedom in Europe, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) is sounding the alarm about the continued use of violence by law enforcement agencies against Serbian journalists. RSF also calls on EU authorities to respond to these abuses in a joint statement issued by several press freedom organisations.
The European Commission's (EC) report on the rule of law in Serbia largely fails to portray the seriousness of the current situation in the country, and continued intimidation and violence against journalists can no longer be seen as common practice, a group of international NGOs and journalist associations said today.
