Samuel Lillo was a poet, professor, and was one of the first Chilean writers to win the National Prize for Literature. He died on October 19, 1958. The teacher was originally from Lota, and belonged to a small bourgeois family in the region, of which his brother, the famous writer Valdomero Lillo, was part.
