Edinburgh Airport Evacuates After Potentially Suspicious Package Report
Specialist teams are investigating after the terminal was cleared and flights were delayed, diverted or held, with a cordon and road closures in place.
On Friday, June 19, Edinburgh Airport was evacuated after a "potentially suspicious package" was reported around 6:50 PM, prompting Police Scotland to establish a cordon and close surrounding roads.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal team responded to secure the scene, while the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service mobilized three appliances and three specialist resources at 8:44 PM to assist.
Passengers faced significant disruption as arriving flights were diverted to Newcastle Airport and departures were delayed; Citylink services were rerouted to the Moxy Hotel and Hilton Hotel bus stops.
"Parts of the airport remain partially evacuated," the airport said late Friday, as authorities advised passengers to check with their individual airlines for current flight information.
Inquiries into the suspicious item remain ongoing as specialist teams continue investigating the scene; authorities have not yet provided a timeline for reopening the facility.
