Putin Trying To Win By Terrorising Civillians, Says Britain’s Foreign Minister
The package targets oil companies, shadow fleet tankers and crypto platforms as the UK says sanctions now cover more than 90% of Russia's oil output.
On Thursday, Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband announced 38 new sanctions targeting Russian oil companies, shadow fleet tankers, and supply chains during a visit to Pryluky, Ukraine, alongside President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Miliband and Zelensky visited a five-storey residential building in Pryluky, Chernihiv, where a Russian missile strike killed 22 civilians, including five children, prompting the Foreign Secretary to condemn the 'appalling atrocity.'
The updated restrictions now cover more than 90% of Russia's total oil production capacity, adding 12 shadow fleet tankers to a list exceeding 600 vessels and sanctioning 17 entities supplying military goods.
Alongside the sanctions, the UK opened its first dedicated Kyiv Business Centre to enable British firms to establish permanent presence and invest in Ukraine, reinforcing support since 2014.
The Government also sanctioned three crypto exchanges and two payment platforms—including three linked to Kyrgyzstan—to disrupt financial evasion routes and military supply chains vital for Putin's ongoing war effort.
