- On Saturday, retired Indian Administrative Service officer Subrata Gupta was appointed advisor to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, following his tenure as the Election Commission of India's special roll observer.
- Adhikari took the oath as West Bengal's ninth Chief Minister earlier on Saturday, forming the state's first Bharatiya Janata Party government and ending the 15-year tenure of the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress.
- The BJP secured 207 seats in the 294-member Assembly, while the TMC won 80 constituencies. Adhikari defeated former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency by over 15,000 votes.
- In a related administrative move, the government named IAS officer Shantanu Bala as the Chief Minister's Private Secretary. Bala previously served as Additional District Magistrate of South 24 Parganas.
- Before the election, the Election Commission of India conducted a special intensive revision exercise in West Bengal and eight other states. The Trinamool Congress challenged the commission's voter removal process, which excluded over 61 lakh voters.
