West African leaders on Sunday signed an agreement approving the construction of a gas pipeline linking Nigeria to Morocco at a summit of regional bloc ECOWAS in Sierra Leone's capital Freetown.
The Heads of State of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) signed an intergovernmental agreement on Sunday approving the construction of a pipeline linking Nigeria to Morocco.
At an ECOWAS summit in Freetown, its president, Julius Maada Bio, announced on Sunday the signing of the agreement relating to the West Africa-Morocco gas pipeline (NMGP). Approximately 6,000 km long, it is expected to cross 13 African countries along the Atlantic coast to transport billions of cubic meters of gas.
The huge structure, which has been mentioned for a decade, would cross thirteen West African countries before being connected to the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline.
