WHO says Ebola outbreak in Congo shows signs of containment with no new cases reported
No new Ebola cases have been reported in Congo’s Kasai Province for 10 days, with 64 cases and 43 deaths recorded since the outbreak began, WHO said.
- As of October 5, 2025, the World Health Organization reported that no new Ebola cases have emerged in Kasai Province for ten consecutive days.
- This pause in new cases followed the outbreak's announcement on September 4, after which intensive containment actions targeted epicenters in Bulape and Dikolo health areas.
- In the past week, six individuals were released after completing treatment; meanwhile, another six confirmed patients continue to receive medical attention in the hospital.
- Congo has reported a total of 64 Ebola cases and 43 deaths, and '98.6% of contacts under follow-up were seen,' the agency stated.
- If no new cases arise and all patients are discharged, the country will begin a 42-day countdown to officially declare the outbreak's end.
