Early Voting Opens for SC Senate Race: Who Can Vote and Where
Ten Republican candidates are on the ballot as early voting runs statewide for the special U.S. Senate primary, officials said.
On Wednesday, Aug 5, South Carolina began early voting for the special Republican Senate primary to replace the late Senator Lindsey Graham, with polling locations open statewide through Friday, Aug 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Ten Republican candidates are on the ballot for the Aug 11 election, which follows Judge Daniel Coble's August 4 order to include Danny Ford II after a certification dispute with the South Carolina Republican Party.
Greenville County reported more than 2,200 voters on the first day of early voting, while participants cited economic concerns: "I think everyone thinks about economics, how it hits the pocketbook, whether it's food or gas," one voter added.
Eligibility is limited to voters who participated in the June Republican primary or did not vote in any June race; those who cast ballots in the June Democratic primary remain ineligible to participate.
The special primary winner will advance to face Democratic nominee Annie Andrews in the November 3 general election, while absentee ballots must be received by county offices by 7 p.m. on Aug 11.
