Eli Stowers Placed on IR Before Philadelphia Eagles' Season Opener vs. Washington Commanders
The rookie tight end is expected to miss at least four games after a hamstring injury limited his practice, the team said.
On Saturday, the Philadelphia Eagles placed rookie tight end Eli Stowers on the Injured Reserve List after an MRI revealed a quadriceps strain requiring at least four weeks of rehabilitation.
Despite Stowers expressing optimism about playing in Sunday's opener against the Washington Commanders during Friday's media session, leg discomfort developed shortly thereafter, prompting the roster move.
The Eagles will rely on tight ends Dallas Goedert, Johnny Mundt, and E.J. Jenkins for Sunday's game, while Stowers joins fellow tight end Grant Calcaterra on the Injured Reserve List.
Before the injury, Stowers struggled to distinguish himself as a blocker or receiver during training camp, and he now faces a minimum four-week rehabilitation process for his quadriceps and hamstring issues.
The team's rookie class faces a setback as the Eagles manage early-season roster depth, with Stowers' development paused while undergoing treatment alongside historical investment in early-round talent.
