Eagles Coach's Promising Update on Jalen Hurts' Progress in Pivotal Offseason
Sean Mannion said Hurts has been outstanding in meetings and that the Eagles are likely shifting toward a wide-zone scheme to better use his rushing ability.
On Thursday, new Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion spoke with reporters for the first time, praising quarterback Jalen Hurts' progress and engagement during voluntary offseason team activities.
Mannion is Hurts' 11th offensive coordinator across his college and professional career, representing the sixth play-caller since the quarterback entered the NFL in 2020.
Describing his vision as a "blend," Mannion said the 2026 Eagles offense will evolve to maximize player strengths, prioritizing fundamentals and timing over scheme rigidity.
"Jalen's been outstanding in the meetings," Mannion said, noting Hurts is a "really capable learner" who consistently stays after practice to refine fundamentals.
ESPN labeled the 2026 season a "crossroads" for the 27-year-old Super Bowl MVP, and Mannion is tasked with correcting offensive stagnation that plagued last year's team.
