Dyson’s First Toothbrush Costs as Much as a Budget Smartphone and Justifies the Price Tag with a Camera and AI
Dyson’s first oral-care device uses a 100,000-pixel camera and AI to target plaque between teeth, with preorder pricing starting at $499.
On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Dyson launched the CameraJet Electric Toothbrush, marking the company's entry into the oral care market with a $500 device featuring an AI-powered camera and mouthrinse jet.
Developed over six years with 661 engineers and 30 dental professionals, the device addresses insufficient oral hygiene—users typically brush for only 45 seconds instead of the recommended two minutes.
The CameraJet Toothbrush utilizes a 100,000-pixel macro camera and 'Gap Optical Targeting' to analyze 28 live images per second. Trained on 470,000 dental images, the system triggers a precision jet burst of mouthrinse in real time.
Addressing privacy concerns, Dyson stated the device is "optimized for short-range vision and detection only." Images are deleted immediately from the MyDyson app after viewing, the company clarified.
Preorders are open with shipping slated for September 8, 2026. The launch reflects a broader industry trend of integrating cameras into household items, testing consumer acceptance of such technology.
